Vision Statement
Through a whole systems approach, UCSF aspires to work toward a sustainable campus life which protects and enhances the environment and health of the staff and students, and the City of San Francisco. The university strives to become a leader in environmental sustainability by educating our students, employees and neighboring community. Through an integrated approach, which incorporates economic, human, and ecological health and viability, we will support UCSF’s mission today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Mission
UCSF recognizes its role as a leader and advocate in the community. With the adoption of an environmental sustainability policy, UCSF demonstrates a commitment to responsible stewardship of environmental resources. The policy is to set a standard for sustainable principles in coordination with the Regents and UCOP. We will:
* Efficiently use and conserve water, energy and other resources
* Implement ecological transportation alternatives
* Develop environmentally responsible purchasing practices
* Develop healthy indoor air quality systems
* Minimize solid waste production
* Incorporate lifecycle impact into sustainable financial planning and budget goals
* Integrate environmental literacy into research, education and communication
* Promote environmentally responsible principles for faculty, staff and student behavior
* Implement resource-efficient site planning, design and building principles
* Require environmentally sound practices for hazardous material handling
* Conduct/promote activities among departments and operations in an integrated, interdependent manner
UCSF will convene a Sustainability Committee, with representatives from Purchasing, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Operations, Budget & Finance, the Medical Center, Recycling and Refuse Services, Capital Projects, Planning, Campus Life Services (parking & transportation, housing and vendor services), Government & Community Relations, Public Relations, Laboratory Management, Faculty, Students.

Work Groups
Work groups are responsible for coordinating and driving work supported by the sustainability committee. Read below to find specific charges related to the UCOP policy on sustainable practices.
Budget Work Group
